Former Trenton Thunder pitcher Josh Hancock was killed early Sunday morning when his SUV collided with the back of a tow truck in St. Louis, MO. He was 29 years old.

Hancock pitched for the Thunder in 2001 and 2002 while with the Red Sox organization, and eventually made his Major League debut in September of 2002 with Boston.

He also pitched for the Phillies, Reds and Cardinals in his six-year Major League career.

"All of baseball today mourns the tragic and untimely death of St. Louis pitcher Josh Hancock," Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement. "He was a fine young pitcher who played an important role on last year's World Series championship team."

He appeared in three playoff games for the Cardinals last season, but did not pitch in the World Series.
